Deb has owned and operated The Good Earth Health Food Shoppe in Northwest, Ohio, since 1976. Before beginning her dietetic career, she studied iris analysis under Dr. Bernard Jensen, herbal medicine under Dr. John Christopher and reflex analysis under Dr. Richard Versandall, all leaders in their given alternative medicine fields.
Today, Deb has a versatile, integrative practice that incorporates dietary recommendations, nutrition supplements, fitness, and lifestyle changes to enhance health. Currently, she is in residency for her doctorate in clinical nutrition. She also holds a Masters in human nutrition from the University of Bridgeport and is a board certified clinical nutritionist and licensed and registered dietitian. Deb is an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer, maintains Yogafit certification and holds the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic’s, (formerly the American Dietetic Association) weight loss certification. She also has a degree in traditional naturopathic medicine and working her way through advanced yoga certifications. She served as the 2010-11 Chair of Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine (DIFM), a dietetic practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which represents dietitians in holistic, complementary and alternative medicine. Deb also Co-Chaired the writing of Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance for Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine that was published in the June 2011 Journal of the American Dietetic Association and served on the Leadership Task Force for advanced credentialing of registered dietitians and nutritionists in integrative nutrition. She recently was been published in a peer reviewed journal in one of her areas of specialty, the elimination diet as it affects pain and inflammation.
Deb’s passions include investigating the old ways which include: Traditional Chinese Medicine, ayurvedic medicine, yoga, training for triathlons, blue zone health, Irish Setters, Mediterranean cooking and because of her love of education- collecting more credentials.
Deb does a weekly radio/podcast show that explores natural health and nutrition topic. It airs Sunday mornings on 99.7 FM, is posted on this website, and can be downloaded from as a podcast from iTunes under the title, Today’s Health & Chiropractic. A frequent guest is her son, Dr Ian Rainey, doctor of chiropractic. She also runs a weekly class at the Good Earth Health & Nutrition that explores various health topics. Both the radio show and the weekly class is recorded and can be found on the website "media" tab.
While seeing clients in individualized consultation, Deb marries the knowledge of science with the wisdom of nature to make personalized recommendations for the prevention and management of both acute and chronic conditions. Deb’s key insights and passion for the natural, holistic and integrative nutrition field make her approach unique. Having personally used natural techniques to prevent life changing surgery, she knows the trauma of a frightening diagnosis and the power of the innate healing ability of the human body and spirit.
