Protein is having a moment!
Walk through the grocery store and suddenly everything is “high protein.” We have protein cereal, protein bars, protein chips, protein pancakes, protein ice cream—you name it, manufacturers have figured out they need to put the word protein on the front of the package.
A new word: proteinmaxxing—trying to pack as much protein as possible into your day.
But do we really need all of this protein? Are Americans protein deficient? Can you get too much? And maybe the most important question for those of us who want to stay healthy, active and independent as we age: Should we upgrade our intake? Studies have now come out that suggest protein restriction is linked to increased longevity. Oh my what to believe?
